About the Farm
Background
The Winters Fruit Tree business began in the 1920s by Paulina and Phillip Lupertino in the Santa Clara Valley, initially selling cherries and apricots to local food processors. With urban growth, the farm relocated to Winters in the Sacramento Valley in 1967, focusing on drying apricots and prunes under the name Merry Rose Orchards. By 1968, William Arthur Carter, a biochemistry graduate, established a year-round fruit stand on State Highway 128, expanding the product range to include almonds, pistachios, and walnuts.
Practices
The farm originally sold commercially grown Royal Apricots but has since expanded to offer a variety of seasonal fruits and vegetables grown on-site, as well as produce from local farmers. They also sell local honey, eggs, dried fruits, and nuts, maintaining a commitment to small family farming and sustainable practices.
The Rest
The farm stand, built by William Arthur Carter, serves as a hub for the community, offering a wide range of products including almonds, pistachios, walnuts, oranges, apples, cherries, and apricots. The farm honors its century-old roots and continues to thrive in the rapidly changing landscape of California agriculture.
