About the Farm
Background
Windermere Farms & Apiaries began in the valley below Lake Windermere and has been serving the greater Memphis area since 2003. Ken and Freida Lansing, the owners, started with a small garden in their yard in 2000 and expanded to field cultivation by 2003. They became certified organic by Quality Certification Services of Gainesville, Florida in 2007. The farm has grown to include a variety of vegetables and an apiary, with a presence at the Memphis Farmers Market since 2007.
Practices
The farm irrigates using water captured from runoff into ponds, which is then pumped to tanks on ridges above the valley floor and distributed via gravity-fed tubing and T-Tape drip lines. They focus on providing nutritionally dense, soil-based vegetables and adhere to organic farming practices, ensuring their produce meets certified organic standards. The farm also utilizes a hoop house for growing plants and has built infrastructure from timber cut on the land.
The Rest
Visitors are welcome to walk around the farm, though it is recommended to call ahead. The farm is located in a residential neighborhood and is easily accessible from Interstate 40. Windermere Farms & Apiaries offers a range of vegetables and honey at the Agricenter Farmers Market in Memphis. They also encourage customers to subscribe to their newsletter for updates and promotional offers.
