About the Farm
Background
Located on a portion of the 'last dairy farm' in Glastonbury, Longo Farm, which is now owned by the Town of Glastonbury, this farm rents full-sun raised beds and sells seedlings and produce to the community. In 2023, they rebuilt community garden beds, improved rear field production by building a fence, and introduced a diversity garden program.
Practices
The farm operates as an ongoing 'organic' farm, focusing on protecting the natural environment. They are actively controlling the spread of invasives, including mugwort, and researching new methods for invasive control.
The Rest
The farm offers a variety of educational programs, including 'Farm Fresh Kids,' which promotes growing, healthy eating, and the connection between land, environment, and health. They also host summer concerts and other community events. Produce available includes lettuces, kale, spinach, snow peas, garlic scapes, heirloom tomatoes, sweet and hot peppers, beans, beets, melons, fresh cut herbs, and flowers.
