About the Farm
Background
In the spring of 2001, Leslie Devine-Milbourne, John Devine, and their daughter moved to a secluded 20-acre farm in Morgan County, West Virginia, naming it Wind Dance Farm. That summer, they held their first youth overnight camp, which expanded over the years. By fall 2002, they began offering supplemental classes to local homeschool students, which grew into a four-day-a-week program. In 2007, they established a non-profit status and began building a larger education center, completed in fall 2018. The center was built with community support and now hosts environmental education programs for public school students.
Practices
Food is grown utilizing biointensive methods with minimal fossil fuel use from planting to harvesting to delivering. The farm emphasizes interconnectedness with the earth and ecological thinking, promoting preservation, conservation, and respect for the environment.
The Rest
The farm offers a CSA providing seasonal food to members, homeschool educational programs from September through May, and summer camps focusing on wilderness skills, crafting, and outdoor activities. The educational programs include natural history, science, literature, and traditional activities like singing and dancing. The farm operates as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, with contributions being tax-deductible.
