About the Farm
Background
First certified organic in 1974, the farm has been continuously operated for over 40 years. Originally known as Sweet Earth Organic Farm, the name was changed to Willow Ridge Organic Farm due to a naming conflict with a large food company. The farm's name reflects its location atop a ridge and the presence of a significant willow tree that has been a family landmark.
Practices
The farm has maintained its organic certification since 1974, adhering to organic farming principles that prioritize soil health, biodiversity, and ecological balance. The location in the Driftless Area, untouched by glaciers, provides a unique landscape with deeply carved river valleys and fertile soil, ideal for organic farming.
The Rest
Willow Ridge Organic Farm sells its produce at selected farmers markets in Chicago and through a CSA program in the Chicago area. The farm's name change coincides with the celebration of its 40th anniversary in organic farming.
