West Harlem CSA

The West Harlem Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) was established to offer an affordable alternative to standard grocery shopping, particularly for West Harlem residents where healthy food options are limited and budgets are often constrained. Partnering with Windflower Farm, a small organic farm in Valley Falls, NY, the CSA is completely volunteer-run and member-supported. The initiative is driven by a commitment to food justice, ensuring that fresh, organic produce is accessible to all, regardless of financial situation.

Windflower Farm, the primary supplier for the West Harlem CSA, adheres to organic farming principles, eschewing chemical herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers. Instead, they enrich their soils through cover crops, crop rotations, and compost. The farm is committed to careful land stewardship, ecological pest management, and maintaining a healthy environment. As members of the Northeast Organic Farming Association (NOFA) and Certified Naturally Grown (CNG), they uphold rigorous standards to protect the local water supply and preserve the soil for future generations.

In addition to providing fresh, organic produce, the West Harlem CSA fosters a sense of community among its members through events and activities. The CSA operates on a sliding scale based on income and accepts food stamps, making membership accessible to a broader range of people.
