About the Farm
Background
The farm was originally acquired by Vernon and Mazella Walters, who worked for the Jameses and later purchased the land. Carroll Walters, their son, farmed and ranched with his father before taking an off-farm job and leasing the land. Becky Walters found her niche in growing pumpkins in the late 1980s, transforming a hobby into a business that now plants 30 acres of pumpkins annually. Carroll retired in 2007, and the farm has since become one of Wichita's favorite pumpkin patches.
Practices
Becky Walters initially planted all pumpkin seeds by hand, pulled weeds manually, and checked each plant for squash bug eggs, demonstrating a hands-on approach to farming. The farm continues to explore new varieties of pumpkins, squashes, and gourds each year, ensuring a diverse and engaging experience for visitors.
The Rest
The farm features a wide array of activities including a 5-acre corn maze, pedal car track, punkin' chunkin', bag swings, a swinging bridge, nature walk, underground slides, hay jumps, pedal boats, and more. Special events like the flashlight maze and Haunted Pumpkin Cannery occur in October. The Pumpkin Pantry offers unique treats such as Pumpkin Juice Slushies, Pumpkin Chili, and Pumpkin Patch Salsa. The farm has received numerous accolades, including recognition from Martha Stewart and Country Living Magazine, and hosts events like weddings and educational hayrides.
