About the Farm
Background
Located in Hartwood, Virginia, approximately 6 miles northwest of Fredericksburg, this farm has been in the family since 1945. Initially, the family raised dairy cows, beef cattle, corn, and soybeans. In recent years, they converted 25 acres of hay fields into pasture for cattle and added a pig lot in the woods in 2017.
Practices
The farm practices rotational grazing to improve soil health, protect the environment, and support the community. They raise Angus and Devon-Angus cattle on natural pasture, including fescue, orchard grass, and clovers, without using chemical fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, growth hormones, steroids, or antibiotics. The cattle are managed organically and fed free-range organic minerals in a low-stress environment. Heritage-breed pigs are raised in the forest on non-GMO feed and acorns, and chickens roam freely in the yard and woodland.
The Rest
The farm offers beef in family packs, quarters, halves, and wholes, pork by the pound, and eggs by the dozen. They welcome visitors for farm tours and provide detailed information on their website. Additionally, they are a drop-off site for Creambrook Farm, offering raw milk delivery.
