About the Farm
Background
For 55 years and across four generations, the Nichols family has delivered responsibly-grown produce from Victoria Island to the world. Located on an island of rich organic peat soil in the California Delta, the farm has been family owned and operated since 1964. Known for its premium grade produce and attention to quality, the farm has evolved to offer a diverse selection of crops and products.
Practices
The farm grows Southern and Northern Highbush blueberries in the island's mineral-rich, peaty soil, ensuring plumpness, taste, and freshness. Blueberries are cooled and packaged within an hour of harvesting to maintain their quality. The farm emphasizes modern agricultural practices that are both highly productive and sustainable, overseeing all steps from growing to shipping to ensure absolute quality control, freshness, and food safety.
The Rest
During the summer harvest season, the farm opens a portion of its blueberry fields to the public for U-Pick and pre-packed fresh blueberry sales. The farm stand is open Wednesday to Sunday for the purchase of pre-packed blueberries and other seasonal items, including estate honey, locally grown pistachios, and blueberry lemonade. Visitors can also enjoy complimentary tastings of farm-harvested spirits like Sabbatical’s Blueberry Lemon Vodka and an award-winning portfolio of whiskeys. The Sabbatical Bottle Shop offers tastings and sales of craft spirits, custom barware, and hand-poured whiskey candles.
