About the Farm
Background
Located outside of Ridgeway, Ohio, this family farm has been in operation since 1982. Known for their cherry tomatoes and cucumbers, they have expanded from greenhouse growing to outdoor production. The farm is a regular vendor at the Worthington Farmers Market and has built a reputation for delivering fresh, locally grown produce. Bill VanScoy, a graduate of Wilmington College with a degree in Production Agriculture, has been farming all his life. His son, Wesley VanScoy, who holds an associate’s degree in Agribusiness Management and Technologies from the University of Northwestern Ohio, has earned numerous FFA awards and is actively involved in the farm.
Practices
The farm employs hydroponic methods to grow a variety of produce including beefsteak, grape, and cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and lettuce. They have also expanded to outdoor production to grow seasonal items like sweet corn, apples, and peaches. The emphasis is on harvesting produce within days, sometimes hours, of delivery to ensure maximum freshness and flavor. The farm also raises its own beef, emphasizing the importance of quality meat for dining and grilling.
The Rest
The farm offers a VIP CSA program that allows members to select their vegetables and a significant portion of their meat needs weekly. They also provide a tire division service, which includes installing, balancing, and rotating tires, as well as fitting custom rims. The CSA season runs from the end of May through the end of September, with gift cards available for purchase.
