About the Farm

Background

Perched on almost 30 acres, the farm was acquired in late August 2011, with renovations completed by late 2012. The first kitchen garden was started in Summer 2012, followed by the addition of heritage Buff Orpington hens in March 2013. By 2015, fencing and pastures were added for turkeys and chickens, with the first harvests in 2016. The farm has continued to expand, now offering table eggs, hatching eggs, and chicks.

Practices

The farm raises poultry without added hormones and antibiotics, allowing them to free range outdoors on pasture. The birds are supplemented with grains, garden greens, fruits, and vegetables, and they feed on natural grains, acorns, weeds, seeds, grasses, roots, fodder, and insects. The slower, more natural growth rate ensures longer lives before humane processing. Compost bins utilize hen litter, garden debris, and kitchen scraps to enrich the soil.

The Rest

The farm is open for visits by appointment and offers fresh, not frozen, heritage Bourbon Red Turkeys for Thanksgiving. Poultry are harvested humanely on the farm, and products include whole birds seasonally and eggs year-round. The farm is registered with the SC Meat & Poultry Inspection Dept. and holds a SCDA Egg License.
