Twin Springs Farm

Located at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Nelson County, Virginia, Twin Springs Farm spans 76 acres of diversified produce cultivation. Known for its nutrient-dense and flavorful produce, the farm has become a staple in local farmers markets, commercial accounts, and the Food Hub in Charlottesville. The farm's dedication to sustainable practices has been shaped by the teachings of the Virginia Association of Biological Farmers and the pioneering research of Dr. Elaine Ingham on the soil food web.

Twin Springs Farm employs ecological farming practices that eschew harmful herbicides and pesticides. Their growing methods include the use of cover crops like Winter Rye and Buckwheat, compost, Alfalfa meal, trace minerals, and micronutrients. Foliar feeding with fish emulsion and sea minerals further enriches the soil. High tunnels are utilized to grow cold-tolerant varieties of salad greens, kale, beets, and carrots during the fall and winter months without heating, relying instead on row covers. These methods result in nutrient-dense produce with an intense, sweet flavor.

Twin Springs Farm actively participates in the Nelson Farmers Market and is a member of both the Virginia Association for Biological Farming (VABF) and the Southern Sustainable Agricultural Working Group (SSAWG).
