About the Farm
Background
Founded in 2006, the farm began as a family project to provide healthy, affordable food for their children. The initial success of selling surplus produce led to the establishment of a more formal business. Over the years, the farm has expanded to include a farm stand, CSA programs, and a popular annual Pumpkin Festival. The farm is deeply rooted in the local community, with the family actively participating in 4-H, FFA, and other agricultural organizations.
Practices
The farm operates without the use of chemicals, focusing on organically-managed practices. The fertile soil of Orchard Homes provides a rich foundation for their crops. Livestock, including poultry and pigs, are raised naturally, with pork processed by a local butcher. The family emphasizes hands-on learning and community involvement, offering farm tours and educational programs to promote agricultural awareness.
The Rest
The farm offers traditional CSA shares, Farmers' Market shares, and sells produce and eggs at the Orchard Homes Farmers' Market. A farm stand in a renovated barn provides a year-round outlet for their goods. The farm also hosts a large Pumpkin Festival every October, featuring pumpkins grown by local students. The family is active on social media, sharing updates and recipes, and they belong to several local agricultural and community organizations.
