About the Farm

Background

The Tonnemaker family has a rich farming heritage dating back to 1903 when George and Cora Tonnemaker planted an orchard in Yakima Valley. Orland Tonnemaker expanded the family’s agricultural pursuits by purchasing land in Royal City, Washington, in 1962. The farm has since been managed by successive generations, with Kole Tonnemaker and his son Luke currently overseeing operations. In 1992, Kurt Tonnemaker began direct marketing, opening a fruit stand and participating in numerous farmers markets. The focus shifted in recent years to Tonnemaker Valley Farm in Woodinville, which was established in 2015.

Practices

Tonnemaker Valley Farm employs certified organic farming methods on its 16-acre parcel, with 7 acres currently under cultivation. The farm grows a variety of herbs, leafy salad mixes, squash, onions, garlic, brassicas, and root vegetables. Efforts are ongoing to reclaim more land from Canary Reed grass and manage the high winter water table. The farm emphasizes creating green spaces and habitats for both animals and humans, fostering a connection between people and the source of their food.

The Rest

Tonnemaker Valley Farm features a seasonal fruit stand selling produce from both the Woodinville farm and the family’s Royal City location. They offer U-pick options during the summer and fall, along with a pumpkin patch in the fall. The farm also provides a large selection of U-pick flowers and participates in community-supported agriculture (CSA) programs.
