About the Farm
Background
Located in Monroe, ME, this farm is operated by Heide and Greg Purinton-Brown along with their two sons, Guthrie and Oliver. Known for its variety of products, the farm has become a local staple, producing raw cow's milk, cow's milk ice cream, cheeses, yogurts, and kefir. Over the years, it has expanded its offerings to include pasture-raised and organically fed chicken, pork, and lamb, as well as honey from its beehives.
Practices
The farm employs a diversified approach to agriculture, integrating pasture and forest management to raise East Friesian milking sheep, Jersey & Guernsey cows, heritage breed American Guinea Hogs, layer hens, and broilers. All meat served is raised on the farm, with 100% grass-fed beef, woodland and pasture-raised pork, pasture-raised lamb, and seasonally pasture-raised broiler chickens. The farm also maintains orchards and gardens that provide fruits, herbs, and vegetables, while the woodlands supply firewood for the wood-fired oven and house an eight-mile network of private walking and biking trails.
The Rest
For those looking to immerse themselves in the farming environment, the farm offers a rental property for family farm stay vacations. Dining experiences on the farm are unique, featuring a menu that changes weekly based on the availability of fresh, local ingredients. Guests can enjoy dinner and live music, walk through flower gardens, visit the animals, and relax in a serene setting. The farm also boasts undeveloped waterfront on Toddy Pond, providing a peaceful retreat for cottage rental guests.
