About the Farm
Background
The family orchard has existed in Kimberly, Oregon since the early 1900s. The Thomas family has farmed the land since 1947 when W.B. Thomas purchased a portion of the orchard from Mr. Kimberly. Currently, the 3rd generation of the Thomas family manages the orchard, with two members of the 4th generation being raised on the land.
Practices
The orchard employs cultural practices designed to ensure the freshest and highest quality fruit. As a certified organic farm, they oversee every aspect of planting, picking, and packaging their produce. Harvest begins mid to late June with bing, rainier, and lambert sweet cherries, followed by peaches, pears, and nectarines in mid-August, and concludes with apples throughout the fall. All fruit is picked fresh and stored at 34 degrees in a cooler.
The Rest
Visitors can purchase fresh and packed fruit or opt for a U-Pick experience. The orchard also produces dried fruits, jams, spreads, syrups, and applesauce, all available at their on-site fruit stand. The orchard offers breathtaking views of the John Day River and the Blue Mountains, making it a perfect spot for touring, picnicking, and photography.
