About the Farm
Background
After graduating from the University of Illinois with degrees in Horticulture, the founder started The Planter's Palette in 1981, initially focusing on growing perennials and annuals. In 2009, fresh produce was added, harking back to the founder's early days in 4-H. Hydroponic growing methods were introduced in 2015.
Practices
The farm employs hydroponic growing techniques to cultivate a variety of vegetables, including tomatoes, lettuce, onions, peppers, and cucumbers. They were pioneers in the Chicago area for using soil enriched with natural, beneficial microbes and organic fertilizers, ensuring healthy plants with well-developed root systems.
The Rest
The Planter's Palette offers a vast selection of annuals, perennials, fruits, vegetables, herbs, trees, and shrubs. Horticulturalists are available to assist gardeners of all skill levels with design, plant selection, installation, and care. The business is dedicated to helping people enhance their outdoor living spaces with a colorful array of plants.
