About the Farm

Background

The Nutty Pig Farm is known for its Red Wattle and Large Black heritage hogs, prized for their great tasting meat. The farm offers piglets, roasting and butcher hogs, as well as cuts of meat, and has a presence at the St. Clair Farmers Market every Saturday morning.

Practices

Hogs are raised on pastures of clover and orchard grass, with rotational grazing practices in place. During winter, the hogs are given alfalfa or clover hay. They are free to roam the woods to forage for nuts and grubs, and are supplemented with grains without the use of hormones or medication. The hogs live a natural life, farrowing in their chosen environments, whether it be the woods, pasture, or shelters. The farm maintains a boar of each breed with their own families, allowing all ages to live together and engage in natural behaviors like grazing, running, and wallowing in ponds and mud holes.

The Rest

The farm delivers hogs to the processor of the customer's choice, often using Swiss meats for their USDA certification. They also offer local delivery of meat to customers in St. Louis.
