About the Farm
Background
Sonny and Fran began farming in 1958 with just 4 acres of land and a small roadside stand off route 132 in Yorktown. Over the years, as demand for local and fresh produce grew, they expanded their operations. In 1970, they rented The Meadows Farm Market and eventually purchased it, moving it across the street to its current location. Today, they cultivate crops on 100 acres of land in upper Westchester and lower Putnam counties. In 2003, they added 20 acres of organically grown produce to their offerings.
Practices
The farm emphasizes freshness and quality, picking Sweet Corn and most crops daily, sometimes even twice daily. They focus on selecting varieties that enhance both flavor and freshness. The fields are located within 10 miles of the farm market, ensuring that produce reaches customers at peak freshness. Additionally, they have dedicated 20 acres to organically grown produce.
The Rest
The farm operates a CSA (Consumer Supported Agriculture) program, allowing customers to receive a share of the farm's produce. They take pride in sharing their knowledge about the plants, fruits, and vegetables they grow and sell, and they welcome questions from visitors. The farm market is a hub for fresh, local produce in the Yorktown Heights area.
