About the Farm
Background
The Long Grey Line Farm began operation in Alabama early in 1976 as a horse breeding farm. Over time, it transitioned into a livestock breeding operation, focusing on producing livestock without the use of hormones, herbicides, or pesticides. The farm relocated to North Central Florida and has become known for its Belted Galloway and BueLingo beef cattle, as well as Savanna Composite and Spanish Meat Goats.
Practices
For 49 years, the farm has not used herbicides, adhering to a philosophy of natural farming. The Belted Galloway and BueLingo beef cattle are raised on pasture with hay harvested on-site and are fed pellets daily to maintain their friendliness. Heritage breed chickens are free to roam the fields, providing fresh eggs. The farm maintains two separate goat herds: one with Savanna bucks crossed on various breeds of does, and the other with pure Texas Sawyer Spanish goats. The farm's commitment to clean land ensures clean grazing, which translates to healthy animals and humans.
The Rest
The farm offers beef for sale several times a year in whole, half, or quarter portions. Goat kids are sold at weaning time for breeding, meat, or as pets for brush and grass control. Occasionally, goat meat is available, processed at a local facility. Roosters are raised for meat year-round, with some available for sale in the freezer. Martha Aitken, a key figure at the farm, has been honored in the Who’s Who Publisher’s prestigious roster of Top Female Executives, Professionals, and Entrepreneurs.
