About the Farm
Background
In 1979, the farm was purchased by the grandfather, who initially farmed conventionally with corn, soybeans, and wheat. By 1989, he began experimenting with cover crops and no-till methods, reducing herbicide use. In 2006, the father took over, continuing these practices and nearly eliminating the use of roundup, fungicides, and pesticides. The current owner bought the first two cows in 2016, transitioning to grass-fed beef by 2018, and continues to implement regenerative practices.
Practices
The farm raises 100% grass-fed and finished beef, rotating pastures every 1-3 days during summer months. Pigs, a combination of Redwattle and Tamworth heritage breeds, are pastured year-round and forage on nuts and roots in the woods, supplemented with non-GMO corn and soybeans. The farm avoids antibiotics, added hormones, and genetically modified feed, focusing on natural minerals to maintain animal health. While not certified organic, many organic practices are followed, aiming to regenerate the land.
The Rest
Visitors can purchase products at the Carbondale Farmers Market or directly from the farm. The farm also offers home delivery across the contiguous 48 states. Customers praise the quality of the meat and the friendly, family atmosphere. Recent farm projects include building a new pond and spreading clover to improve soil health.
