About the Farm
Background
Located in the rolling hills of Fayette County, the farm has been a family-owned operation for over 40 years. The property benefited from a local Boy Scout troop's pine tree planting project, resulting in mature stands of white pine and scotch pine. The remainder of the forest land, timbered in the late 1990s, now features dense hardwood regrowth. The farm is known for its diverse ecosystems and wildlife, including deer, turkey, and various bird species.
Practices
The farm raises Angus-cross steers and Romney and Suffolk sheep, all grass-fed and grass-finished from birth on their own pastures. The animals are not treated with hormones or antibiotics. The farm employs rotational grazing to improve forage and soil health, and the diverse plant and animal life on the farm supports a balanced ecosystem.
The Rest
The farm offers weekly drop-off at The Black Rock Center for the Arts in Germantown, MD, and meat is available for pick-up by appointment. The farm also serves as a unique wedding venue, providing both indoor and outdoor spaces for ceremonies and receptions. Visitors can enjoy nature walks and observe the farm's wildlife and ecosystems. Calving and lambing seasons in spring are particularly exciting times for visitors.
