The Honest Bison began as a family's quest for healthier eating and fitness. Founder Sean Lenihan, driven by the need for trustworthy and transparent food sources, left his career in experiential marketing to dive into grass-fed bison ranching. The business was established to provide unprocessed, humanely raised meats directly to consumers, addressing the lack of reliable protein sources in the market.
Practices
The ranchers practice Holistic Management, promoting the growth of diverse native grasses to feed the animals, enhancing meat flavor and eliminating the need for chemical inputs. The animals are raised on holistically managed ranches across South Dakota, Oregon, Montana, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. They are grazed on diets natural to them, including grass, local shrubs, berries, leaves, and wild grains. The regenerative ranching practices help maintain a balanced ecosystem, replenish soil nutrients, sequester carbon, and support plant biodiversity.
