About the Farm
Background
In 1963, the family began selling produce in Westchester, IL, growing on 105 acres next to the farm stand. As development encroached, they moved operations to Kendall County, near Plainfield, where they continue to grow produce today. The business is now run by the third generation, maintaining a tradition of freshness and quality. Over the years, selling locations have evolved, now including two permanent locations and a farmer's market.
Practices
The farm emphasizes local and sustainable growing practices, planting seeds in greenhouses in early March and transplanting seedlings in May. Sweet corn is planted in mid-April, with continuous planting throughout the summer to ensure a steady supply. Produce is picked daily, only when ripe and at peak flavor, ensuring maximum freshness. High tunnels are used to protect tomatoes from early frosts, extending their growing season.
The Rest
The farm offers a variety of seasonal produce, including sweet corn, tomatoes, pumpkins, and squash, along with bedding flowers in the spring. They collaborate with two Michigan fruit farmers to provide fresh peaches, blueberries, and other seasonal fruits. Additionally, they sell local raw honey from a nearby apiary in Frankfurt, IL, and a selection of salsas, jams, and salad dressings made by small Midwest producers. The farm does not offer U-pick services.
