About the Farm

Background

The Creek's Edge has been raising registered Icelandic Sheep since 1999. Starting with a small flock, it has grown to between 25-30 breeding ewes, including both horned and polled animals of various colors and patterns. In 2005, they incorporated artificial insemination into their breeding program, using a less invasive technique developed by Dr. Thorsteinn Olaffson of Iceland. The farm is enrolled in the Voluntary Federal Scrapie Certification Program and received certification status in August 2005.

Practices

The Creek's Edge practices rotational grazing on irrigated pastures, ensuring a consistent source of high-quality pasture for the flock. The sheep are fed only grass and hay produced on the farm and neighboring farms. This method supports the health of the land and the animals, promoting excellent meat conformation, heavy muscling, and a lean carcass without sacrificing wool quality and productivity.

The Rest

Breeding stock is sold nationwide, while gourmet lamb and fiber products are available for purchase both locally and online. Visitors are welcome to see the flock by appointment, and additional information about Icelandic sheep can be found through the Icelandic Sheep Breeders of North America and the Canadian Livestock Records Corporation.
