Templewood Farm

Located 30 minutes east of Des Moines, outside Colfax, Iowa, the farm began its journey with the successful raising of 10 hogs in its first year and plans to increase to 30 hogs in 2016.

The farm has embraced permaculture principles by installing an orchard and planning an aquaponics greenhouse for winter greens and fish. Additionally, they are planting willows for forage and crafting purposes. Their focus on self-sufficiency and green building/living practices reflects a holistic approach to farming and community living.

Future plans include building small cabins and tiny houses for cooperative workers and members, as well as creating spaces for camping retreats. The farm envisions hosting green and alternative meetings, camp-outs, festivals, and classes, integrating art and celebration into their community activities.
