About the Farm
Background
Located on the East End of Long Island, Sylvester Manor is a 240-acre property with a rich history as a historic plantation. It has evolved into a nonprofit organic farm, arts, and education center. The farm has been actively cultivating over 60 acres of vegetables, fruit, and livestock since 2008. The property also includes the restoration of the 1810 Windmill and the multi-year rehabilitation of the 1737 Manor House.
Practices
The Windmill Field is tended by a dedicated crew of young farmers, including seasonal apprentices and WWOOFers. The farm operates a 21-week CSA and an onsite Farmstand where produce is sold. Pigs are raised for pork, and a robust group of chickens provide eggs. The farm's mission is to preserve, cultivate, and share the history of Sylvester Manor, ensuring that food and art remain connected to the community and the land.
The Rest
Sylvester Manor offers a variety of programs open to all, including concerts, cultural events, teacher resources, and summer youth programs. The trails and grounds are open from March to October, welcoming visitors to explore 236 acres of forests, waterfront, and historic farm fields. The farm also hosts an Annual Farm to Table Benefit, the largest fundraising event of the year.
