About the Farm
Background
Sunshine Farm & Gardens, founded by Barry Glick, has spent the past 32 years cultivating a diverse collection of hardy perennials, bulbs, trees, and shrubs on a 60-acre mountaintop in Greenbrier County, WV. The farm is known for its extensive plant collections and its commitment to bridging the gap between expert horticulturists and home gardeners.
Practices
The farm employs a state-of-the-art tissue culture laboratory for experimental genetics, aiming to develop new and improved plant varieties. The main focus of their breeding program is within the genus Helleborus, with Barry Glick dedicating the last decade to enhancing the genetic diversity of his Helleborus x hybridus strains. The farm maintains over 50,000 flowering size stock plants for seed production.
The Rest
The display gardens, redesigned in 1993 by Matthew Bishop of Devon, England, are open to the public with advance notice. Sunshine Farm & Gardens offers both retail and wholesale quantities of their plants, with limited mail-order options for home gardeners. The farm also hosts various events, including lectures, slide presentations, and workshops, both locally and internationally.
