About the Farm
Background
The orchard has been farmed organically since 1972 and certified by California Certified Organic Farmers since 1984. Located in the coast range foothills overlooking the Sacramento Valley, it has been in operation for 42 years.
Practices
The orchard employs organic farming methods on a small 4-acre parcel at 800' elevation in the hills north of Vacaville. The hot summer days and warm nights contribute to the early ripening of most crops. Due to scarce water, minimal drip irrigation is used, resulting in fruit with concentrated flavors. The orchard allows fruit to tree ripen as long as possible for maximum flavor, packing the best for sale and using any culls for home use.
The Rest
The orchard shares farm news, orchard operations, and fruit-centric recipes through its blog. The crops include Royal (Blenheim) apricots, Spring Crest peaches, Santa Rosa plums, Beauty plums, Formosa plums, Black Mission figs, Meyer lemons, Fuyu persimmons, and Hachiya persimmons. The orchard is known for its high-quality, carefully packed fruit, which is a favorite at several Bay Area restaurants.
