About the Farm
Background
For nearly 20 years, the Sunfield Education Association has linked lifelong education with land conservation, responsible agricultural practices, and collaborative community relationships. Inspired by Rudolf Steiner, the association encompasses a Waldorf school, a biodynamic farm, and community outreach programs on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State.
Practices
Certified organic and biodynamic farming techniques are employed to tend the land and animals. Five acres are dedicated to vegetables, fruit, and cover crops, while the remaining fields are hayed and grazed rotationally by cows, sheep, goats, and chickens. The farm emphasizes respect and empathy for the land, recognizing its historical significance to the Coast Salish People.
The Rest
Sunfield hosts interns and apprentices, offering invaluable life skills and work experience. A 25-week Biodynamic CSA provides healthy food to the local community, accompanied by a weekly newsletter with farm updates, cooking tips, and recipes. The farm invites community members to participate in seasonal festivals, volunteer work shifts, and 'farm parties' to engage with the land and its produce.
