About the Farm

Background

Straight Creek Valley Farm, spanning 63 acres of beautiful creek bottom land, was purchased by Greg Cole and Christine Tailer in the spring of 2003. Located three miles north of the Ohio River in South Central Ohio, about 50 miles southeast of Cincinnati, the couple moved to the farm in August 2007, leaving their city life behind. They embraced an off-grid lifestyle, starting with living in an outhouse for over a year before completing their septic system. Over the years, they have built a 40' by 60' pole barn and a sugar shed to support their farming activities.

Practices

The farm is dedicated to sustainable practices, particularly in beekeeping and crop cultivation. They maintain ten bee hives, focusing on sustainable care and honey harvesting. The farm also identifies and collects sap from sugar maple trees, boiling it down to produce maple syrup. Their commitment to sustainability extends to using antique farm machinery and continuously learning about the local plant and animal life.

The Rest

During the summer, the farm sells crafts, honey, and garden produce at a stand on the property. Christine, having retired from her city job, now has time to document their farm adventures, sharing their journey and learnings with a wider audience.
