About the Farm
Background
Stack Rock Mountain Farm, named for the mountain ridge on its eastern border, has been a working farm in the same family since the early 1950's. Initially a dairy operation, a switch was made to Angus cattle, and grass-fed beef has been the main focus for over 30 years.
Practices
The farm's cattle are fed on grass exclusively, with no use of hormones, antibiotics, or animal bi-products. The farm employs rotational or 'mob grazing,' allowing cattle to graze on fresh sections of grass daily, which enhances the nutritional value of the pasture. This method reduces dependence on non-natural fertilizers, improves soil health, and prevents erosion and runoff, benefiting nearby streams.
The Rest
The farm emphasizes the health benefits of grass-fed meat, which is leaner, lower in omega-6 fats, and higher in beneficial omega-3 fats and conjugated linoleic acids. Proper stewardship of the land and raising animals in a natural environment are central to their philosophy, aligning with the American sustainable agricultural movement.
