About the Farm
Background
Spring Brook Farm is a sixth-generation farm with three generations currently in residence. Since reaching retirement age, the family has returned to their roots by opening a farm store and joining the Cumberland Farmers' Market Association in 1997. Greg and Kay lease the farm to Jeff Storey, who manages the farm and market operations.
Practices
The farm raises 100% grass-fed beef, using no pesticides, herbicides, commercial fertilizers, hormones, or antibiotics. Steers are pastured year-round, grazing freely in spring and summer and eating harvested hay in winter. Pigs, chickens, and hens are humanely raised. The farm carefully selects a USDA-certified butcher known for gentle handling and cleanliness. Seasonal vegetables and fruits are grown and harvested, starting with fiddleheads, rhubarb, and asparagus in May, and continuing with a variety of produce through October.
The Rest
The farm store is open year-round, and the farm participates in the Cumberland Farmers' Market Association. Visitors are welcome to explore the farm, interact with animals, and pick their own flowers and raspberries. Children can play with farm toys and observe the daily operations of a working farm.
