About the Farm
Background
In the late 1990s, the family purchased a historic 55-acre farm in Vacaville, CA, which had been untended for 30 years. They began by cleaning up the property and installing basic utilities. Initially, they planted 300 olive trees and later launched a pastured poultry operation. Over time, the farm evolved to include diverse agricultural practices and products, such as lavender fields, olive oil, cut flowers, sheep yarn, and specialty vegetables. The farm has grown to support the local community and engage in broader agricultural issues.
Practices
The farm operates on the belief that 'you are what you eat, and what you eat, eats.' This philosophy guides their management of pasture, bird health, and overall farm care. They raise pastured chickens that are free to roam, peck, and take dust baths, converting sunlight, grass, bugs, and high-quality domestic feed into healthy animals. The farm also immerses itself in regenerative agriculture, adding diversity to increase soil life and habitat for pollinators.
The Rest
The farm collaborates with Morning Sun Herb Farm on lavender products, producing essential oils, hydrosols, culinary salts, and bath products. They host workshops and lectures, and have a farm store open from March through November. The farm is committed to discussing agricultural issues, supporting small family farmers, and preserving agriculturally zoned land. Visitors are encouraged to explore the farm and its diverse offerings.
