About the Farm

Background

Solsma's Punkin Patch began in 1999 as a way for Amy Solsma to start a college fund for her children, inspired by her childhood experience of selling pumpkins by the roadside. Over the years, the farm has expanded to include acres of fall produce, a corn maze, and a retail store featuring locally made items. The farm is operated by Jay, Amy, Blake, and Claire Solsma, with Jay also raising corn, soybeans, and Hereford cattle, and selling Beck's Hybrids Seed since 2015.

Practices

The farm raises drug and hormone-free Hereford beef, ensuring a natural and healthy product for consumers. Jay Solsma manages the cultivation of corn and soybeans, while Amy focuses on maintaining the pumpkin patch and controlling weeds through hands-on labor. The farm's commitment to quality and natural farming practices is evident in their diverse range of produce and livestock.

The Rest

The farm's store is open daily from September 1 to October 31, with additional hours by appointment. They also sell Ruby Red popcorn both in-store and online. The farm has become a popular destination for school groups and features a variety of local products in the fall. Recently, the farm has added fireworks to their offerings, available for sale from June 1 to July 8 and in December. The farm is located near Sanborn, Iowa, and welcomes visitors to enjoy the yard free of charge.
