About the Farm
Background
Since 1974, middle and high school students have come to a 5,000-acre outdoor classroom to engage in farming, forestry, and ecological research. Known for its Youthwork Program for disadvantaged high school students and Environmental Field Studies Program for mainstream middle and high school students, it has become a hub for applied learning and community engagement.
Practices
The farm integrates research and innovation in collaboration with farmers, foresters, and academic partners to promote sustainable agricultural and forestry practices. It emphasizes a progressively more sustainable relationship with the land, engaging local youth in meaningful work and learning experiences.
The Rest
The organization is committed to diversity and active inclusion, making conscious and substantial efforts to value and empower people of all races, ethnic and economic backgrounds, gender identities, sexual orientations, religions, ages, and abilities. The board and staff are dedicated to ongoing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion learning as part of their regular discussions and operations.
