About the Farm
Background
Lael and Jacob Eisman, brothers and caretakers of the land since 2002, grow food to nourish the connections of body, soul, and soil. They are known for their outstanding garlic and vegetables, which they provide to the local community and beyond. The farm also offers farmstays, tours by appointment, and hosts wedding parties or other events on their lakeview barn deck and surrounding grounds.
Practices
The farm employs organic growing practices, minimal tillage, and cover crops to increase soil vitality. They build healthy soils naturally by using cover crops, rest periods, and regularly amending soils with compost and organic matter. Synthetic or petroleum-based fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides are not used. Fertilization is done with composted organic matter, and mulches are used whenever possible. Much of the work is done by hand.
The Rest
The farm sells fresh produce locally at farmers markets in Ithaca and Trumansburg and provides weekly fresh produce to members of their Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. Online, they sell hardneck garlic bulbs, garlic seed, garlic scape pesto 'Rosie's Scape-a-moli', garlic braids, and garlic powder. The farm's inspiration, Grandmother Rosie, lived to 95 and had a legendary love for garlic. The farm also hosts the Fourth Annual Earth Medicine Gathering and offers premium garlic powder made from their own rocambole and porcelain garlic varieties.
