About the Farm

Background

Located in the Sierra Nevada Foothills of Northern California, Sierra Farms has been known for its direct lamb marketing for eight years. The business was sold to a ranching family in Susanville who continue the tradition of direct marketing beef, lamb, and pork. The original owners, Mary and Mel, are now retired in Washington but fondly remember their customers as part of a larger family.

Practices

The farm employs stewardship principles such as rotational grazing, perennial grass species renewal, and animal adaptation selection in a non-irrigated, forage-based regimen. This approach promotes biological conservation and ensures the lambs live an idyllic life on oak savannah grasslands. All lambs are processed by a USDA-inspected processor, ensuring humane treatment and high-quality standards.

The Rest

Lambs are available from March through December, sold either whole or half, cut, vacuum sealed, and boxed with a net weight label. Prices are currently $7.00 per pound. Whole lambs for pit or spit are also available. Customers are encouraged to contact Joe or Andrew Bertotti for current prices and delivery schedules. Additionally, the farm provides a 'Lamb Cuts Illustrated' guide to help customers identify and cook various cuts of lamb.
