About the Farm
Background
Shepherd's Cross is a working farm and Christian mission known for its diverse farming activities and educational outreach. The farm offers a variety of tours and events throughout the year, including the Pumpkin Festival, Shepherding Tours, Bible Garden Tours, Living Nativity Tours, and Woolly Weekend. The farm also features a 6000 square foot Amish-built barn, a Farm Museum, a Bible Garden, and a Wool Mill.
Practices
The farm raises sheep, hay, pecans, walnuts, and garden produce using natural methods, though it is not licensed organic. The sheep operation is Animal Welfare Approved, and the farm's lamb is USDA certified. The farm emphasizes sustainable agriculture with grass-fed, grass-finished, and grass-born sheep.
The Rest
Shepherd's Cross offers a variety of educational opportunities, including farm internships, apprenticeships, and lessons in spinning, weaving, felting, wool washing, carding, knitting, and crocheting. The Shepherd's Shop sells naturally grown farm produce, USDA certified pasture-raised lamb, wool products, vegetables, pecans, pumpkins, Amish jams and jellies, candles, and specialty gift items. The Bible Garden features over 300 varieties of plants related to the Bible, available for self-guided or guided tours. The farm is PASS aligned, offering teaching material aligned with the Oklahoma Department of Education agriculture program. The Living Nativity event in December is a free, family-friendly representation of the first holy night.
