About the Farm
Background
Located in northern Sedgwick County, the farm has been operated by Brad and Tiffany Dilts and their eight children. The 40-acre farm, situated near Sedgwick, Kansas, was farmed conventionally until about 20 years ago. Since then, the focus has shifted to healing and regenerating the soil. Originally certified organic for commodity crops, the farm dropped the certification due to cost and complexity but continues to use organic methods.
Practices
The farm employs regenerative methods, including the use of cover crops and crop rotations, to maintain soil health. All fruits and vegetables are grown chemical-free from non-GMO seeds, without chemical pesticides or herbicides. Livestock is raised on pasture with minimal grain, which is non-GMO and organic when possible. Chickens are moved to new pasture daily, contributing to pasture fertility and garden health. The farm also raises Freedom Ranger Chickens, a slow-growing broiler breed, which are fed organic, non-GMO grains and are raised outdoors on pasture.
The Rest
The farm offers a variety of seasonal produce, including over forty different vegetables and a small fruit orchard with peaches and pears. They provide fresh greens throughout the winter using high tunnels. The eggs from pastured chickens are noted for their nutrient density and flavor. The farm also plans to offer grass-fed and finished beef in the future.
