About the Farm
Background
Located 35 miles from Chattanooga, TN, this 300-acre farm has been dedicated to conservation and sustainable farming for over 20 years. Four generations, from ages 2 to 92, live and work on the farm, contributing to its daily operations and long-term mission. Known for their rare-breed American Milking Devon cows, Large Black and Old Spot heritage pigs, and a diverse market garden, they have built a reputation for high-quality, nutrient-dense food.
Practices
Certified organic by Stellar Certification Services and biodynamic by Demeter Certification, the farm employs holistic management principles to farm in harmony with nature. Their beef is certified humane by Animal Welfare Approved Certification. They utilize nutrient-dense manure composts, cover crops, and careful plant management to enhance soil health. The farm's practices focus on improving the ecosystem and providing nutrient-dense food, using animals and calculated plant management as tools to create a positive environmental impact.
The Rest
The farm sells its products at the Main Street Farmer's Market in Chattanooga and Greenlife Grocery, as well as through the online Cumberland Farmer's Market in Sewanee, TN. They offer bulk meat custom orders and have an on-farm Trading Post open Monday-Saturday. The farm also hosts events like basket-making classes and is home to Dancing Fern Nursery, which propagates southeastern native perennials.
