About the Farm
Background
Established in 1979, the farm has deep roots in Old World German traditions and has been a staple in the Western Pennsylvania community for over four decades. The farm's origins date back to the late 1700s when the ancestors of the current owners settled in the area. Known for being one of the earliest recognized organic family farms in the region, it has been providing fresh farm products to local residents for many generations.
Practices
The farm predates USDA organic certification and has maintained organic farming practices since its inception. They are dedicated to sustaining the local community through their CSA program and participation in local farmers' markets. The farm also features eight beehives, contributing to the pollination of crops and the production of honey. Expansion efforts include acquiring additional land to improve product availability and services.
The Rest
Visitors can enjoy the aroma of honey from the beehives and overlook the valley during the summer. The farm offers free-range eggs, local milk, and seasonal produce year-round through a barn display cooler. CSA shares run from May to October, with various enrollment options. The farm stand operates on Thursdays and Saturdays, with specific hours and locations detailed on their website. Volunteers play a significant role in the farm's operations, assisting with harvesting, washing, packing, and mulching.
