About the Farm
Background
The farm was started in 2014 by a sole woman farmer who grew up on a large sheep farm in the Falkland Islands. With the help of her engineer husband, she aimed to grow nutrient-dense, organic vegetables and pasture-raised animals. The farm has expanded from a small 5.5-acre plot to include a second 104-acre farm purchased in 2021. The original farm now focuses on vegetables, fruit, and cut flowers, while the larger farm is dedicated to livestock.
Practices
Since its inception, the farm has adhered to organic practices and transitioned to no-till methods for vegetable cultivation. Chickens and heritage pigs are fed organic feeds and compost-destined vegetables. Pigs are raised in woodlots and pastures, allowing them to engage in natural rooting behaviors. Sheep and cattle are managed through rotational grazing to regenerate soil and forage while controlling parasite loads. The farm's philosophy emphasizes that food is medicine, aiming to produce nutrient-dense, healthy food.
The Rest
The farm offers a variety of products including CSA memberships, pastured meats, vegetables, yarn, roving, fruits, and flowers. Eggs can be purchased via the website as a subscription or on an as-needed basis. The farm also hosts a Farm Stay AirBnB and participates in several farmers markets. Additionally, the farm plans to host farm-to-table dinners starting in the summer of 2024.
