About the Farm
Background
Located in Carlisle, PA, this small family-owned farm has established itself as a producer of high-quality wool and meat from sheep. They also raise pigs, cows, and chickens, and have a particular interest in Hog Island sheep, a rare heritage breed. The farm collaborates with other breeders, including those at George Washington's home in Mount Vernon, to maintain and promote this unique breed.
Practices
The farm employs rotational grazing methods to feed their breeding ewes and market lambs, ensuring that the pasture remains healthy and productive. Their laying hens are free-range and are moved using a chicken tractor to fresh pasture, allowing them to graze in a manner similar to the sheep. The hens also forage in a local orchard, consuming insects from fallen fruit, which helps in maintaining the orchard's health.
The Rest
The farm offers whole, half, and quarters of lamb, all under USDA inspection, and delivers within 25 miles of Carlisle for free. They sell brown eggs by the dozen, with the first dozen free for new customers. Visitors are welcome to contact the farm for tours or to purchase products.
