About the Farm
Background
David Blyn founded the farm thirty years ago, initially moving to the property in 1989 with plans to run a carpentry business. Despite the poor condition of the barn and house, he was captivated by the landscape and river. Starting with just a half acre of vegetables, David expanded his farming efforts each year, transitioning to full-time farming by 1991. In 1996, he met Laura, who had studied sustainable agriculture in Santa Cruz, CA. Together, they built a resilient farming operation, weathering various challenges and growing their family with three children, Lily, Alice, and Stella.
Practices
The farm is committed to certified organic practices, growing a diverse array of crops from seed in their greenhouses. They emphasize resilience and adaptability, having faced and overcome numerous agricultural challenges over the years. Their farming philosophy is deeply rooted in the belief that consuming their produce creates a lasting connection between the farm and the eater.
The Rest
Riverbank Farm participates in several farmers' markets across Connecticut, including New Milford, Greenwich, Old Greenwich, Darien, Westport, New Haven, and New Canaan. They also offer an apprenticeship program, providing hands-on learning experiences in all aspects of farm production and the farm-to-market process. While they do not sell produce directly from the farm, their products can be found at local markets and the Roxbury Garage.
