About the Farm

Background

Rockside Ranch, located in the Scott Valley of far Northern California, was founded by Craig and Jen Thompson in 2010. Craig, a 4th generation farmer from Chico, CA, and Jen, who joined him after working at Kidder Creek Camp, combined their love for farming and redemptive program ministry to create the ranch. The farm is known for its commitment to raising nutrient-dense, tasty food and for its role in helping young men overcome crises and thrive through hands-on farming experiences.

Practices

The farm adheres to strict principles that preclude the use of chemicals, medications, or added hormones. Following the Weston A. Price Foundation’s nutritional philosophy, all animals are grassfed, pasture-raised, and free of soy and GMOs. Chickens and turkeys follow cows on pasture, consuming bugs, grass, and grain, while pigs are rotated through woodlands to forage and encourage biodiversity. The farm processes and packages poultry on-site and sells pork by the half or whole, with some processed at a USDA facility for retail sale.

The Rest

Rockside Ranch operates a small CSA and hand-delivers products throughout California and southern Oregon. The farm also serves as a transformative environment for young men, fostering responsibility and compassion through daily farm activities. Students engage in growing and raising their own food, cutting and burning their own heat, and solving various challenges, all while exploring the message of the Gospel and developing meaningful relationships.
