Rising Moon Farm

For twenty-five years, Catherine Friend and her wife Melissa lived on a small farm in southeastern Minnesota, raising sheep and other animals. Their farm life provided ample material for Catherine's writing career, leading to several award-winning books. After a quarter-century, they sold the farm to a young family and moved to the city to explore new interests.

The farm raised lambs on pasture, allowing them to graze throughout the summer and fall. The animals lived almost their entire lives with their mothers and were not given antibiotics or growth hormones. The farm emphasized humane treatment of meat animals.

Catherine Friend is an accomplished author with several awards, including the Minnesota Book Award for General Nonfiction. She continues to write and teach, and still engages in activities like dyeing yarn from their sheep. Both Catherine and Melissa have transitioned to city life, focusing on new hobbies and home improvement projects.
