About the Farm

Background

Rise ‘N Shine Organic Farm began as a dream in 2004 when Mitch apprenticed at Broadwing Farm in Hot Springs, NC. Later that year, Mitch started the farm on leased land in Ranger, GA, building a barn from scraps, humorously named the Redneck Yurt. After marrying in 2005, Mitch and Elisabeth moved the farm to McLemore Cove, expanding to a 5-acre garden. Eventually, they settled in the fertile Oostanaula River Valley, growing the farm to nearly 30 acres of cultivated land. Over the years, the farm has become one of the largest CSAs in Northwest Georgia, supplying organic produce to Metro Atlanta and beyond.

Practices

The farm employs sustainable agricultural methods, focusing on soil quality and crop diversity. They go beyond organic certification standards, using high tunnel hoop houses to grow over 40 types of organic produce year-round. Pasture-raised hens roam freely, contributing to the farm's offerings of eggs. The farm's mission includes supporting local farmers, advocating for healthy living, and reducing environmental impact.

The Rest

The farm's produce is available through CSA locations in Rome, Dalton, and Chattanooga, as well as at Greenlife Grocery in Chattanooga and various local restaurants. They also offer customizable farm boxes that include homemade items like strawberry jam, sauerkraut, and pickled okra. Additionally, the farm collaborates with Riverview Farms and Sweet Grass Dairy to provide meats and cheeses, which are sold separately. Customers receive weekly deliveries of fresh produce and can access recipes to inspire creative cooking.
