About the Farm
Background
For thirty-seven years, the farm has cultivated twelve acres along the Etowah River, seven miles west of Dahlonega, Georgia. Known for its community engagement, the farm has hosted garden harvest dinners for the past twelve years, blending Japanese and Appalachian cuisines. Despite scaling back events due to part-time teaching commitments, the farm continues to be a local staple for fresh produce and educational gatherings.
Practices
Certified annually by the Georgia Crop Improvement Association, the farm adheres to National Organic Association standards. Transparency is a cornerstone, with farming records available online for public review. The farm emphasizes the connection between food production and the ecosystem, conducting monthly biological and chemical monitoring of the Etowah River and Mud Creek. The farm's practices highlight the importance of living soil, watersheds, and wildlife in producing quality food.
The Rest
The farm offers a Garden Bugs club on the second Saturday of each month, where participants can engage in gardening activities and stream monitoring. Additionally, the third Saturday features a garden harvest dinner, combining Japanese and Appalachian menus. The farm shares its land with the International Appalachian Academy, which hosts an open house annually. Visitors are encouraged to join the mailing list for updates on dinner menus and produce availability.
