About the Farm
Background
Founded in 2007 by Daniel Holmes and Caroline Fanning, the farm is located on a seven-acre plot leased from Nassau County at the Old Bethpage Village Restoration, a living history museum that recreates 19th century life on Long Island. Known for its commitment to sustainable agriculture, the farm offers fresh produce to the public through a CSA program and a weekly farm stand.
Practices
The farm eschews the use of herbicides, pesticides, and synthetic fertilizers, focusing instead on building healthy soil through cover cropping, mulching, and minimal tillage. This approach not only nurtures the land but also ensures that the produce is of the highest quality. All farming activities are conducted transparently, in full view of the customers.
The Rest
The farm also engages the community through various events such as herb workshops, student tours, and seasonal activities like pick-your-own garlic and Halloween celebrations. Additionally, the farm has been featured in a documentary titled 'The Restoration Farm Story' and has been discussed on 'The Rural Woman Podcast.'
